How to copy a report from Looker Studio?

Looker Studio is an excellent tool for building awesome dashboards presenting your data. You can create many different charts, add filters to refine your analysis, create custom fields, etc.

You can do almost everything to dig in your data, but it can be very time-consuming!

That's why you need to use templates. With a great design, you can save much time when you only have to modify the data. And with a template built to be ready to copy, you have to create a data source, copy the template and start sharing it to analyze!

We will see how to copy a Looker Studio template easily and be ready to share it with your collaborators.

Choose your templates:

The first step is to choose a template that you like. Then, you can find a lot online with a quick Google Search.

Here's a quick list of websites with templates for multiples sources :

On Looker Studio template list: You'll find here only templates made with the Google connectors, which means you can get and use all of them for free.

On Looker Studio community gallery: everyone can create and publish a template here, and Google has reviewed them all. You can get them all for free, but some might require a subscription to use with your data.
On the Catchr template list: You can get them all for free and use them with our 14 days free trial. They are optimized to work with our connector, and if there is one you like, you can copy and paste it to use it.

We will cover this in the next paragraph.

Create a data source:

Once you choose your template, you want it to show your data. So, first, you must create a Looker Studio data source.

Follow these steps:

From the Looker Studio home page, click Create, then Data Source.

Select a connector. You will find a free connector in the Google Connectors section if you need to connect a Google tool. If you need a non-Google tool, search in the partners' connectors. Here's the list of Catchr's connectors.

Once the connector is selected, authorize Catchr and Looker Studio to access your account to request the data.

Then select your account. You might have more options (attribution settings for ads account, for example). Do not worry. You can come back to this page after creating your data source. Then click Connect at the top right.

Congratulations, you just created your data source! Now we will use it to copy the template.

Tips: Rename your data source when you create it. It will be easier to find it when we will copy the template.

Copy the template:

Now that you created your data source, we can use it with a template.

Return to the template chosen in the first paragraph, then follow these steps :

Click on Make a Copy in the three dots at the top right.

Select your new data source. If there is multiple data source in the template, be sure to put yours in front of the right platform.

Click Copy report and wait for your new report to load with your data.

Finalize the copy of a template with a new data source.

Congrats, you created your first report from a template. You are now the owner of this new dashboard. My first advice is to rename it so you can find it easily when you need it again.
